Scottish Master Photographer Awards 2013 - 2 in a row 'Best Complete Portrait'

I am absolutely delighted to announce that we picked up two winning trophies at this years Scottish Master Photographer Awards including our second 'Best Complete Portrait' in a row !! We had a fantastic day at the Glynhill Hotel in Paisley with guest speakers Vinnie O'Byrne and Dutch Master, Henk Van Kooten. After two hugely entertaining and educations seminars it was onto the awards dinner.

We picked up an award of excellence for our black and white shot of Muti taken at the Summerlee Heritage centre. This image then also went onto win the Fashion and Glamour category

Then our images from the fashion shoot we had for the 'Stanley Place' label also picked up an Award of Excellence. These shots were taken at Ramilia's Hair and Makeup salon on Bath Street (whisper it - one floor up from a photographers!!) This shot was the one I was most pleased with but which also went onto to form part of the 'Complete Portrait' award which was also won.

As well as winning two Awards we also scored highly with the judges for our wedding work. Two of my favourite weddings from 2012 (for very different reasons) picked up awards in the Complete Wedding category. Firstly Craig and Clairs wedding at Moorpark House which was great fun as I had shot the bestman and bridesmaids wedding the year before and they are a brilliant couple. Craig and Clair were absolutely brilliant on the day and I am delighted that their images were rewarded.

Then finally - Marianne and Johns wedding which gave me one of my favourite shots of the year (which I am disappointed to report - did nothing) However, as part of a Complete Wedding these shots were awarded and 'Award of Excellence' just missing out on the top spot. This wedding at Cameron House was a more intimate affair with the couple, close friends and family and possibly the most memorable character I met all year - Marianne's Gandmother !

All in all a very happy evening with just one last shot to share - my big daft mug (left) receiving one of my trophies from Regional Chairman, Seppi Preston (right)

Wedding at Enterkine House - Karen and Craig

Wedding at Enterkine House - Karen and Craig

Im very proud of Karen and Craig's wedding at Enterkine House.

Craig works for the biggest and best wedding magazine in Scotland (The Scottish Wedding Directory). Considering all the photographer he knows and comes into contact with, for him to choose me to capture his day, was high praise indeed. Karen looked absolutely beautiful on the day and Craig looked every part the dashing groom and together this striking couple created a wedding day unlike any other I have ever attended. The theme for the day was 'relaxed'. So Craig and Karen greeted their guests to Enterkine House in jeans and t-shirts at 2pm for an informal coffee and cake. Then about 3ish the couple retired to get themselves ready for the wedding at 4pm while the guests continued to mingle. Then, at 4pm, the bride made her way down to the marquee where all the guest were already in position for the ceremony.

Wedding at Enterkine House

It was a lovely ceremony performed by a family friend and combined the marriage ceremony with a blessing for Karen and Craig's son. After the ceremony I stole the couple for a little while to get their shots and then their family shots before returning them to the guests and dinner. We were well fed too as was John Paul from the excellent at Leven Films who was great company. After that we captured some of the mingling of the guests, a very informal first dance and everyone in attendance just having a lovely time.

And that was it........

A simple relaxed day without any running about, stress or tight schedule.

I felt genuinely honored to be a part of the day for a couple I really have great affection for. I am so glad the day ran exactly the way they wanted it and wish them every happiness for the future.

Wedding at Luss Church and Cameron House - Jude and Ben

Wedding at Luss Church and Cameron House

Ben and Jude's Wedding at Luss Church and Cameron House was  just a fantastic day with a wonderful couple. We enjoyed ourselves so much, and felt so welcomed, by both sides of the family that we often felt more like guests than suppliers on the day. Both Jude and Ben are the kind of couple you speak to for 5 minutes and feel like you've known for years (must be the natural Irish charm). This immediate bond and instant rapport meant that the pictures on the day were an absolute breeze to produce.

We started the day at Luss Estate Cottages (where the remnants of the previous nights fireworks were still scattered around) to get some shots of both sides getting ready. Ben looked like he was born in a kilt and Jude looked simply amazing. I looked less amazing though as I warned everybody to watch their feet on the slippy decking....... only to succumb to the greasy surface myself. At least the camera wasn't involved.

Then it was onto the beautiful Luss Church and the usual excellent service from the Rev Sherrard. After the ceremony we nipped down to the (freezing) Loch side before heading to Cameron House. As I said Ben and Jude (and both families) were a joy to work with and we got loads of lovely images. The couple had also asked us to stay on and capture the evenings entertainment, so after some cracking speeches we then made sure that all important first dance was shot too. A fantastic wedding where both Gillian and myself really felt a part of the day. Thank you both

Crutherland House Wedding - Lesley and Steven

Crutherland House Wedding - Lesley and Steven

Lesley and Stevens Crutherland House wedding has a bit of a story attached to it, so bare with me. 7 years ago I shot Lesley's graduation photo. Lesley was really impressed with her pictures and vowed that I would be the person she gets to shoot her wedding. However at that time I was working for another studio which has since shut down and obviously moved on to start 1500 Photography. I am touched to reveal that, even after all that time, Lesley hunted me down online, eventually found me and asked if I would be available to shoot her wedding - how could I possibly say no? I was humbled to be asked.

So as you would expect we started the day at Lesleys parents house (where I got to see those graduation pictures, hung pride of place in the dining room) to capture Lesleys preparations. Then it was onto Crutherland House where the couple had opted for a humanist ceremony. Then we had the slightly ominous prospect of shooting a good number of complicated group shots. Again though I have to pay tribute to Lesley who had the guests prepped and organised - despite my reservations, the group shots ran like absolute clockwork.

Everything about the couple really impresses me. Their organisation, their determination and the bond that they have with each other. It was a fantastic day to be a part of and and I so thrilled that Lesley spent so long searching for me. A touching experience which I am very proud of.

Hamilton Park Wedding - Sharon and Iain

Hamilton Park Wedding

Sharon and Iain's Hamilton Park Wedding was frankly a sheer stroke of luck. The weather in the week building up to the wedding had been awful and to be honest I was a little concerned about what we would have available on the day for the pictures. I guess I would have pulled something out of the bag but I must admit it was a with a great deal of relief I awoke on the day to find a brilliantly bright crisp autumn day. I have known the groom Iain for a few years now as we have done business together through his company, Sole Media. We used their services to launch our Deja Vu service. But then it turns out that I also know Stuart the best man who is the owner of Diva the dog who won us a Kodak nomination & an MPA award of excellence ....... all very connected.

Sharon looked absolutely sensational. Her dress was beautiful and I think she got her hair absolutely spot on. Classy and elegant. Iain also looked every inch the handsome groom too. There were so many lovely little touches on the day too - including a table hosting photos from their family weddings over the years - that I think I could do a separate blog on all the details of the day. A wonderful day with a lovely couple - just the kind of weddings I love to shoot. Congratulations again, Sharon & Iain

Wedding at Cameron House - Susan & Howard

Wedding at Cameron House - Susan & Howard

Our next wedding at Cameron House was for Susan and Howard. We started the day over the hill in Helensburgh at Susan's parents house before a lovely ceremony at St Andrews Kirk in the town centre. It was a super bright sunny day with the Autumn splitting the skies. Howard, as you can see, is a serving marine and the plans leading up to the wedding were always a little flexible due to his availability. This was our 5th forces wedding this year which is a brilliant record for us and one Im very proud of (especially as these guys have been trained in combat, have access to weapons, subs and warships - so the pictures had better be good!!)

I think Susan looked absolutely beautiful and although you wouldn't know it from the pictures she was battling (what we thought) was a heavy cold. Turns out it was a rather serious chest infection! I'm glad to say though that it certainly didn't slow her down on the day....she just thought her dress was a little tight! Howard looked every bit the square jawed hero you would expect of a Marine. An absolutely cracking couple with two lovely sets of parents. It was a great day and one which we really enjoyed. We even squeezed in a couple of sunset shots just as the sun dipped down behind Cameron House - Many thanks Susan and Howard for all their patience on the day

Roman Camp Wedding - Lisa and Craig

Roman Camp Wedding - Lisa and Craig

Our first Roman Camp wedding and all I can say is wow. What a terrific venue! Lisa and Craig are such a nice couple it was a pleasure to shoot their wedding. I have to say what a great laugh we had with Lisa's mum Joyce who bore the brunt of our teasing (in good humour) all day. Starting off at Joyces lovely house we made our way to Strathblane Kirk before making our way into Calendar and the Roman Camp.

So many intersting nooks and garden areas we were spoiled for choice as to where we took the pictures. Due to the heavy rain the riverside was out of the equation but the rest of the grounds were fabulous. Sadly we can only shoot Lisa and Criags wedding once but I hope we are back at Roman Camp again very soon......
