Portraits at home - Paisley Portriat

A wee break from the weddings with a couple of portraits. First we have the beautiful little Neve photographed at her home in Paisley. What an absolute cutie and so well behaved too. As with all our portrait clients we recommend that,  rather than get all dressed up and drag yourself off to the phony studio environment – you should relax and let us come to you.

That way any changes of clothes or toys required and the general familiar environment helps puts kids at ease. It is also a lovely way to ‘bookmark’ that point in your life too. The context of a home portrait doesn’t seem that valuable until a few years later – that couch, that wallpaper, those toys etc.

Cameron House Wedding/Celtic Warrior Loch Lomond

Its weddings like Simon and Natalie’s that remind you why you love your job so much in the first place. With their kids Ewen and Erin and both of their Dads in attendance, Simon and Natalie got married on the Celtic Warrior on Loch Lomond. This very small wedding party lead to a wonderfully warm and memorable day, The civil ceremony took place on the boat before we headed back to Cameron House for pictures and The Boat House for dinner.

There were so many lovely little moments on the day including Ewen being quickly promoted to assistant captain and steering us home, the captain, quite literally, moving the mountains (turning the boat) for my pictures and of course two cracking older gents with a very dry sense of humour. Most of all though the day will be remembered for the brilliant couple we met, Simon and Natalie. They were an absolute pleasure to shoot on the day and I look forward to meeting up with them both again soon.

2009 Kodak Awards

It was with great excitement Gillian and I made the trek to Newcastle for this years MPA National Awards which incorporated the Kodak Awards. I am sorry to report that we didn’t win. The winner was Ken Lam from Newcastle who won the ‘wedding photographer of the year’ with a lovely shot taken at a pre-wedding portrait shoot in Paris. I am sure Ken’s bride to be is delighted and looking forward to getting her wedding shots taken soon.

Although a little downhearted we are still very proud to get two images into the final 10 of a national competition.

The awards ceremony was a fairly lengthy process so when the lovely Ms Price and myself finally managed to get a picture of the two of us together it was almost midnight (and that’s why I look so ‘tired’ in the shot. Honest.)

Ah well, it gives us something to aim for next year.

Oran Mor Wedding - Rhona and Ally (no3)

And so the the 3rd Ally of the week, this time Alastair marrying the lovely Rhona at Greenbank Church in Glasgow.

Once again we started off at the brides home before we moved onto the church. As you can see from below Rhona's parents garden in Dunlop was spectacular, in fact the temptation to insist we returned to there to shoot the entire wedding was almost overwhelming.

After the ceremony we used a little area next to the manse before heading to the city and to Oran Mor. With its stunning ceiling and some very nice nooks and cranny's  we always get some great shots there. Before the wedding both Rhona and Ally seemed a little reticent about having their pictures taken - however, I need not have worried. On the day itself Rhona and Ally were really into it and gave me some brilliant shots. We also had the added fun of a close up magician (Kevin McMahon) bamboozling the guests while the waited for dinner. You can see Kevin in action below.......

So there you are. Alasdair week at 1500 Photography - great week, top couples and some brilliant pictures - thank you all 1500 Photography

Wedding Photographer sued over 'woefully inadequate' service

No doubt you may have caught this story in the press or perhaps on TV.

Newlyweds win court battle over shoddy wedding pictures

A sorry tale of a cowboy wedding photographer who made a mess of a couples wedding pictures. The following statement is from the chairman of the Master Photographer Association, of which I am a proud member.

I was appalled to read about the West Yorkshire newlyweds, Marc and Sylvia Day, who had to sue their wedding photographer for producing shoddy wedding photographs and video.

The photographer in question was not charging cheap prices either, so how can couples be assured that the photographer they choose is not going to make a mess of things?...

The answer is simply to entrust this most important event to a Master Photographer. The Master Photographers Association is the only trade body in the UK to insist its members are full-time professionals and are qualified to a high minimum standard. They also follow a strict code of conduct and carry the appropriate insurance.

The bungling photographer, Gareth Bowers, was not an MPA member, but appears to have been a former member of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (SWPP) - a privately run society which does not enforce the strict entry criteria of the Master Photographers Association.

Colin Buck
Chief Executive, MPA

Unfortunately its a little late for the couple involved but a timely reminder at this time of year when many wedding fares are taking place and magazines hit the shelves.

Sherbrooke Castle Wedding - Mairi and Ally No2

Another cracking couple for 1500 to photograph.

We started off at Mairi’s parents house before heading off to Ardgowan Evangelical Church in Greenock. As with our previous wedding, Mairi and Ally also had a small post service ‘cup of tea’ reception immediately after the ceremony. We then took a slight detour to the esplanade before heading to Sherbrooke Castle. I haven’t been to Sherbrooke for a few years and it was great to be back - especially now that the upgrade work has finished.

Im sure you will agree that Mairi looked simply stunning, a very classic beauty with Alasdair scrubbing up pretty well too and cutting a real dash in his kilt. I must also mention both families, who were so helpful with the lead up to the wedding and on the day itself with Mairi’s very accomplished family providing much of the music throughout the ceremony. It was an excellent day all round, surrounded by such a lovely bunch of people. Superb
